Expectant Parents

Choosing the right pediatrician for your new baby is a milestone in itself. Many of our expectant parents were patients themselves with us in their earlier days whereas others have heard about us from friends or have identified us based on their insurance.

Our practice is small and personal. Your baby will always be seen by either Dr. Turke or Dr. Thomashow.

Most parents begin by visiting our office and meeting with one or both of our doctors. These complementary visits allow you to observe our Office first hand and to talk to our doctors about your concerns. Many expectant parents have questions about immunizations, circumcision, breast feeding, bottle feeding, and newborn care.

Drs. Turke and Thomashow are affiliated with Saint Joseph Mercy and the University of Michigan C. S. Mott Children's Hospital. In addition to these hospitals, we welcome infants born at all neighboring communities surrounding Ann Arbor, Chelsea, and Dexter Michigan, as well as home births.

For hospital births simply identify us as your pediatrician(s) when you are admitted in labor. This will allow the hospital to contact us with your babies’ birth information. We use the electronic medical record: Athena, and your babies’ discharge records will be directly entered into their chart for us to view. While you are in the hospital, a pediatric hospitalist will see and examine your baby and relay all-important information to us.

Likewise for home births, please advise your mid-wife/doula to send your babies birth records shortly after birth. Your mid-wife can also contact us directly by phone.

Follow-up care begins in the office on the day after discharge. Parents are simply asked call the office prior to discharge to arrange the initial office visit on the following day. Our goal is to see your baby within 24 hours following discharge. At this time we will review the birth and thoroughly examine your baby, discuss feeding, answer questions, and offer guidance.

We warmly welcome you and your new baby to our practice.
